This 2 day workshop will focus on techniques for the basic elements of landscape: trees, rocks and water. Reference photos will be provided, or you can bring your own.

There will be a step by step demo each day and lots of one to one coaching. Participants are encouraged to bring one painting from home to share with the instructor.

Paint colours

  • Janice uses Golden heavy bodied acrylics.
  • Colours are suggested only, bring what you have.

Basic colours: (Janice uses these colours frequently): benzimidazolene yellow, qiunacridone red, ultramarine blue, pthalo blue (green shade), quinacridone nickel azo gold

Additional colours: cadmium yellow dark, cadmium red light, cobalt blue, green gold, transparent red, iron oxide, dioxazine purple, mars black

Supplies

palette to hold your paint

water bucket (bigger yogurt containers work well)

spray bottle for water

acrylic medium: Janice uses Golden Acrylic Glazing Liquid (gloss or satin)

brushes: synthetic (not hogs hair) variety of sizes including at least one big brush – 1 to 2 inches

apron or paint shirt

3 canvases: sizes 11 x14, 12 x 16 or bigger if you prefer (demos will be 11 x 14)

lots of reference photos

sketch book and pencil: any size, small is fine

paper towels/tissues

portable easel if you have one
